The Montreal Goldfield is the only goldfield in Australia which extend into the sea. A gold rush followed the discovery of gold on the beach in September 1880 with miners travelling from Sydney on cargo boats to the area. The Goldfield tour is run by trained volunteers and offers visitors a personal and unique glimpse into the history of days gone by.
The Montreal Goldfields are located approximately 7km north of spectacular Bermagui on the Wallaga Lake Road on the far south coast of NSW. The Goldfield offers a great outing for families, coach tour groups and individual sightseers. Follow 300 metres of boardwalks and pathways through beautiful native forest, re-grown since the days of the gold-rush moonscape.
Montreal Goldfield will be of interest to global experience seekers, Probus clubs, school groups, geologists, bushwalkers, birdwatchers ... and more. During the tour expect to see fauna such as sugar gliders, bats, possums, lizards and a diverse variety of bird life.
